THE BOAT
Sometimes when I’ve been out in the boat I’ve often
wondered how it stayed afloat, cause out in the
middle of the lake I’ve been and come to find
out, the plug’s not in.
The one who’s supposed to take care of it,
sometimes I think just up and quit. He just
gets started on something new and then
forgets what he’s supposed to do.
And I’ll ask him time and time again, “Are
you real sure that the boat plug’s in?” He’ll
swear that he did not forget but the stuff
on the floor’s already wet.
He looks at me like he thinks I’m dumb when I ask him
where that water came from, and when everything’s
tied up with a rope and there’s the two guys
bailing out the boat;
Then I know what it was all about when I couldn’t
get that boat to plane out, so now he
takes the boat around and I take
the pickup on solid ground.
